The Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod awards scholarships to two aspiring artists

The Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod (PPSCC) is pleased to announce that two talented aspiring artists have been honored in the 2022 Scholarship Awards Program. Katie Landry of Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School and Mariel Jelleme, an alumna of Nantucket High School currently studying at Springfield College, will each receive a scholarship for the purchase of art supplies along with a set of artist grade pastels. An awards presentation and pop-up exhibit co-sponsored by the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod and the Cape and Islands Art Educators Association (CAIAEA) at the Cape Cod Museum of Art was held on May 19 with sculptor and potter Steven Kemp delivering an inspirational talk.

All recipients of this award plan to study a visual arts related field at the postsecondary level. Applicants submitted examples of artwork, a statement of art background, experience, and future aspirations to pursue visual arts, and a recommendation from their schools.

Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School’s Katie Landry will pursue a career as an art educator as she was inspired by Dennis-Yarmouth art teacher Maureen Kessler. Landry is an honor student and has had her artwork recognized with awards throughout her high school years. Landry will attend Cape Cod Community College to begin her college career.

Mariel Jelleme is an alumna of Nantucket High School and currently attends Springfield College where she is pursuing a major in art therapy. Jelleme previously studied with the Nantucket Art Association and the Maine College of Art and Design.

The Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod is a non-profit corporation founded in 1995 to create a community of pastel artists, set standards of excellence through education, and encourage and nurture artists in their professional growth. PPSCC has since grown to more than 250 members in 30 states and U.S. territories. The mission of the organization continues today. Through its scholarship program for young aspiring artists, PPSCC encourages a new generation of artists in pursuing artistic endeavors. More information about PPSCC is available at their website
